The current health crisis has disrupted much of what we knew as normal in high school sports. In the wake of this pandemic, new norms have developed; many more will emerge over the course of the summer and fall semester. Despite the challenges and uncertainty COVID-19 has thrown at us, Dakota Ridge Volleyball has responded. CHSAA and Jeffco Athletics set the rules for return to play, which incorporates State of Colorado and Jefferson County general safer-at-home and social distancing rules. Volleyball has been designated a moderate risk sport. The Dakota Ridge Volleyball plan is outlined below. In order to participate in ANY Dakota Ridge summer activity, athletes must:
Phase 1 - Strength and Conditioning Only June 22nd - July 3rd (two weeks)
Phase 2 - Modified Workouts July 8th – July 17th (two weeks) Modified Workouts can begin with six foot spacing and intermittent sanitization of all shared equipment. o Volleyball drills are allowed with a ball. Expected sanitizing of volleyballs must be followed and is expected between drills, before, and at the end of every workout. Social distancing must be followed by players on the court and on the sidelines at all times. Team drills are allowed with maintaining spacing. No player-to-player contact is allowed during these two weeks. Phase 3 - Moderate Risk Sports Resume July 20th – July 31st (two weeks) Moderate risk sports may resume as normal. 1st Official Day of Fall Tryouts/Practice August 10th CHSAA will determine, in conjunction with state officials and the Governor’s office, if fall sports will proceed. Key points for Athletes: o Completion of the Jeffco Waiver Form is required for all athletes. o No spectators will be allowed - Parents or transportation providers will remain in their cars at all times.
o Students are encouraged to bring their own equipment. Water and tennis shoes for outdoor activities and water and volleyball equipment for indoor activities. o Do not share or use other individuals' equipment. o If at any given time any athlete/coach has tested positive for COVID-19, the Department of Health Services will follow-up with the family and determine next steps. All workouts for the associated sport(s) will CEASE until further direction is provided by the Central Administration. o Restrooms will be available upon request; students will let coaches know when they are needed. Face coverings will be worn when inside the building. The following items are REQUIRED of all participants, including coaches, before a workout of any kind begins:
Have you recently been sick with a fever or cough? o Any person with positive symptoms reported, or who has a fever at 100.4 degrees or answers yes to the bolded question above, will not be allowed to take part in workouts and go home as soon as possible.
