Sports can be a fantastic way to bond with your athlete, meet new people, support your school, learn the ins and outs of the game, etc., but they're expensive. By not having to provide paid line judges, score keepers, catered meals, etc., we are able to keep program fees low. But the only way we can do that is with help from our families.
Therefore, by accepting a position on a team, each family has agreed to participate in the below required activities:
REQUIRED FAMILY PARTICIPATION
ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Below is a list of activities that our program traditionally participates in. Every event / activity needs volunteers to help make those events successful.
We do require each family to volunteer in some way with the program. The items with ** are those required events.

VOLUNTEERS:
The Eagle Invitational is a two day (Friday and Saturday) Varsity tournament hosted at Dakota Ridge, typically at the end of October. Each non-Varsity player will have a 2-3 hour shift on BOTH of those days. Adults will be required to work a 2-3 hour shift on either a Friday or Saturday. Each family will also need to provide part of a potluck meal for the Coaches and Referees. This item will also be assigned to each family, and should not exceed $10.00. Boosters will probably utilize a Signup Genius and then will assign remaining slots. Varsity families must provide a food item, but will not be assigned a shift to work. Adult participation AT this event AND providing assigned food items is required.
If your family has multiple adults that are willing to volunteer for this event, or if you are willing to work multiple shifts, it would be extremely appreciated. As we do not use Varsity families for this event, we begin to run thin on volunteers. Please email us if you can help in an additional capacity for this event.
Additionally, if you are able to work Friday afternoon (beginning at approximately 2:00 pm) please let us know. It's difficult to know who is available and who is not during the working day.

VOLUNTEERS:
Every family is responsible for fundraising for the program. The program is not successful without the help of our families. All of the funds raised go back to the girls, in the form of equipment, uniforms, banquets, player and parent recognition nights, etc. Each year varies on what the program does for fundraising. In 2018 and before, players sold advertisements for the Volleyball Program, a yearbook style of book, containing their pictures and quotes, and advertisements for local businesses. In 2019, families purchased 10 car wash tickets, which they could use themselves, or sell to friends or family to get their money back. In 2020 we had restaurant nights at Chipolte and Texas Roadhouse.
TIME COMMITMENT: Minimal - will depend on the year and the fundraising program at the time.

VOLUNTEERS:
Each team needs a Team Parent who will be responsible for communicating between Coach, Boosters and parents. This person will be given the email addresses and phone numbers of all parents of the team they represent. He or she will receive communication from the Coach or Boosters and will need to forward it on to the parents of the team. The girls are not normally included in any of this correspondence. Some Team Parents have additionally created text groups to more quickly communicate with parents. GroupMe is a good tool for this as it is fast and helps you to know who has seen your messages. This person is also be a source of helping the parents with ideas for what to do for team meals or if they can't be there for their volunteer assignment date and times - this does NOT mean that the Team Parent has to fill in when someone else can't fulfill their responsibilities. There might be times when this person is helping a parent find another family that they can switch a volunteer assignment time with. For one of the days of Homecoming week, the Team Parent will need to purchase items to be put in the treat bags of each of the girls (all players plus managers) - this purchase is reimbursable. Some ideas are tiny bubbles, gum, hair ties, candy, finger lights, keychains and stickers. Additionally, this person is responsible for coordinating a Coach gift from the team at the banquet. The Team Parent will need to gather ideas, money, purchase the gift and wrap it. The girls will present it to the coach at the banquet. It has been $10-$15 per player in the past but never mandatory. Whatever the family is comfortable with.

TIME COMMITMENT: 1-2 hours per week

VOLUNTEERS:
This is a fun position. Each player gets a wood volleyball sign, decorated with the DRHS logo, their last name, and their number. This is a sign that can be put in their front yard, and is theirs to keep. In the past, Varsity players have gone around to the new players homes to surprise them with their very own yard sign. Volunteers are needed as the Committee Chair sees fit, including help with to cutting out the templates, doing modge podge, printing out numbers and names, ensuring spelling accuracy. They are also responsible for updating player numbers if a continuing player's number changes from year to year.
